THE annual Blooms Night at Royston Town Hall next Tuesday will once again launch the town's entry into Anglia in Bloom.

Since Royston first entered in 1994 the town has supported this uniquely English event almost every year. And this year the town's chase for honours has the Crow among the sponsors.

Indeed in the first year Royston won first place - a Gold Award.

In 2006 The Priory Memorial Gardens won a Special Award. More recently, in 2005 and 2007 the town gained a Silver Award - only few vital marks below that elusive Gold Award again.

Blooms Night is designed to inspire the town's property owners to make an effort to brighten up their area as well as encourage flat dwellers, businesses, clubs and all home owners to think about the face that they show to the world.

This year there will be a talk from Ken Akers on sinks, troughs and containers suggesting ways of brightening up even the smallest, unlikeliest areas. Also one of the Anglia in Bloom judges will explain more about their aims and criteria. The evening's sponsors, Country Homes, will have a supply of plants to purchase on the night.

In June, Roystonians of all ages will be invited to join the annual competitions to find the best kept gardens, allotments, business premises and communities in the town. Entry forms are available from the Town Hall, at the library and from the Crow's new office in Angel Pavement.

The Blooms Night on Tuesday starts at 7.3pm in the Heritage Hall at the town hall. Entry is free. Light refreshments and a raffle are also available.

This Saturday sees the annual Cowslip Day Craft Fair at Steeple Morden Primary School from 11am until 4pm.

Held to raise funds for the school, there will be lots of stalls selling jewellery, cards, pictures, hats and condiments, handbags and make-up as well as homemade cakes and refreshments.
