A COMPANY sustained damage to its premises after it was hit by fire on Monday.

Two fire crews, one from Royston and one from Sawston, were called to the offices of Ion Science, in The Way, Fowlmere, at 7.50pm after an automated alarm sounded.

They found the insulation of a specialist heating unit to be alight. Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus put the blaze out using a co2 fire extinguisher. It was extinguished by 9.154pm.

Damage was caused to the heating unit, while other parts of the building sustained smoke damage. The cause of the fire was accidental.

Ion Science, which manufactures gas sensing products, employs 33 people at its Fowlmere site. It was open for business as usual on Tuesday.
