A concert in Royston raised cash to help bring blue skies back people hit by the natural disasters in the Philippines.

The Blue Skies big band played a gig last weekend at the Royston Methodist Church. Held in association with the Rotary Club of Royston, 120 guests were soon tapping their feet to an evening of swing music from the 1930s-1960s, which included hits from artists such Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.

John Holmes, from the Blue Skies big band, said: “I was delighted they were to be able to perform and raise funds for such a deserving cause. The band received great support from the Royston Methodist Church and the Rotary Club - as soon as I contacted them they were extremely enthusiastic and rapidly and efficiently set up the evening.”

The evening raised £984, which will be put towards the humanitarian aid effort in the Philippines.
