Bid for new Royston restaurant

PLANS to change one of Royston's biggest retail units into a restaurant have been approved.
As reported in the Crow in May, the owners of the vacant Peacocks store in Royston High Street want to change the usage of the store from Class A1 (retail) to A3 cafe/restaurant.
This move was reluctantly backed by Royston Town Council and has now been ratified by North Herts District Council’s planning committee.
A tenant has yet to be announced for the store, which has been empty since Peacocks closed in February 2012.
At the time of the town council’s decision, Cllr F John Smith said: “I would much rather see it used for some purpose now than hang around and hope something might happen.
“We must make it clear we understand what’s happening on the High Street, and that we would rather have the premises in use than vacant.”
