ROGUE traders offering to carry out home safety checks are targeting the elderly in Bassingbourn, warn the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Community fire safety officer Tony Hibberd said: "A lot of residents have been approached by a company offering fire home safety risk assessments.
"It's quite legal but they normally get in touch with elderly people and once in the house they try and get people to buy fire extinguishers and fire protection equipment that they probably don't need."
The fire and rescue service, however, offers the same kind of service free, including the fitting of a free safety alarm.
