SUPERMARKET staff are getting ready to roll up their sleeves in aid of groups and organisations in the area.

Thanks to a £100,000 nationwide fund, the Co-op store in Buntingford will be providing free labour and materials for community projects, including re-decorating a community hall and cleaning up a park or river bank.

The volunteering initiative was launched on Monday by Co-op staff - and members dressed as Bob the Builder and Alan Titchmarsh look-a-likes.

Store manager John Wilkinson said: "Co-op staff and members are ready for action and are really looking forward to getting stuck in to help make a difference in the community.

All we need now is for groups to set us a challenge."

Anyone with ideas should call into the Buntingford branch for nomination forms.

The challenges will be taken on next year.
