Some seriously tough competitors made their way to the Wimpole Estate at the weekend to take on the gruelling Bear Grylls Survival Race.

The event was made up of 5k and 10k races, a kids’ race and an outdoor festival.

Festival operations director Tamara Fitzgerald oversaw the event.

“It was fantastic to see over 7,000 people join us at the Bear Grylls Survival Race and family festival.” she said.

“It was great to see so many people overcome adversity and challenge themselves on our Bear Grylls adults and kids courses.”

The courses tested people’s fitness using the types of obstacles Bear Grylls himself had encountered in the wild.

“Sadly, the weather was not on our side and high winds forced us to close our new flagship obstacle and severely affected many other festival activities,” said Tamara.

“It was extremely disappointing, however safety is our number one priority on all of our events, and despite the weather, it was great to see so many happy faces enjoying the great outdoors.

“We really appreciate the positive response and kind words that we have received from the people who have welcomed us back next year and we commended our entertainers for persevering through the wind, rain and other survival-like condition – in true Bear Grylls style, the team will ‘never give up’ and are looking forward to coming back next year, bigger and better.”
