A pair of 2484 Bassingbourn cadets have achieved the highest rank in the cadet forces – cadet warrant officer.

Matthew Smith, left, and Matthew Springall – both 18 – were promoted to the highest rank after a tough interview by Wing Commander Anthony Kelly. Matthew Springall is also an apprentice engineer at MBDA.

Matthew Smith, who is a qualified pilot, said: “I’m really happy to have attained CWO. Hopefully the promotions will encourage younger generations of cadets to achieve as much as they can. There is so much on offer.”
