After spending most his retirement crafting magnificent sculptures, Bassingbourn's Peter Miller felt it was about time he pulled his work together in one place.

That place just happens to be The Brick Lane Gallery in London, where he will be inviting the public to view his work during the week long exhibition starting on Tuesday.

Born in London in 1946, Peter studied sculpture at Ware College and Sir John Cass School of Art.

He spent 25 years in the subsea cable industry before retiring in 2007. He then returned to his love of making sculptures five years ago.

He said: “I have always been interested in making things. When I was in my 20s I discovered sculptures.

“I was really interested in the 60s art movement.

But, as with many people in the arts, I had to do a proper job first.”

Peter will be present at the gallery throughout the exhibition to meet visitors and discuss his work with anyone interested in having a chat about it.

Most of the work will be for sale with prices ranging from £250 up to £6,000.

A few sculptures of personal historic value will also be on show but not for sale.

Peter’s early sculptures are predominately carved in wood and are up to two metres in height, and more recent work is made of slate and copper.

Some highlights of his work are six foot high abstract figures named King and Queen, and a pine wood and steel sculpture of an Inuit bird based on artist Kenojuak Ashevik’s piece Darting Raven.

Peter has also worked with other materials such as alabaster, aluminium and glass reinforced polyester.

The sculptor will display his work at the Brick Lane Gallery, in The Annex, 93 to 95 Sclater Street, London.

The exhibition runs from Tuesday, December 1 until Monday, December 7 daily from 10am until 6pm, except Tuesday, when the exhibition will be open 2pm to 6pm, and Sunday, when it will be open 12pm to 6pm.

Examples of Peter’s work may also be viewed on his website, by visiting www.petermillersculptures.co.uk.

Peter can be contacted directly by email at info@petermillersculptures.co.uk.
