A Bassingbourn golfer who went blind after cancer is throwing a fundraiser to support the charity which helps him compete in tournaments throughout the year.

Nick Burr is organising the event at Cambridge Meridian Golf Club in aid of the Blind Golf Society which organise training and tournaments for its members .

“In blind golf you have a guide to line you up and tell you where the ball is – they’re the eyes and you do the rest,” said Nick who went blind in 2013 as a result of central nervous system lymphoma, a cancer where malignant cells form in the brain or spinal cord lymph tissue.

“If you are blind, or partially sighted it’s not one of the first things you think you can do, but I want people to know it’s out there.”

The 18-hole fundraiser will be played as normal except for the 10th hole, where competitors are blindfolded to experience the sport without their sight.

After the event which starts at 10am, on Friday, June 17 there is to be a raffle at The Belle in Bassingbourn, which Nick is appealing for local businesses to donate prizes to. If you can help email nick.burr123@gmail.com or go to blindgolf.co.uk to donate funds.
