Former students from one of the region’s first village colleges gathered in Royston for what they hope will be an annual reunion.

More than 80 former pupils of Bassingbourn Village College attended the event organised by Tony Wilson and Lisa Waller. The former pupils had gone to the school between 1978 and 1987 and the college supplied photographs and press clippings from their archive which created a lot of interest.

Tony said: “The most popular pastime was naming the teachers in the pictures and recalling favourite lessons. Not only did we meet up with old classmates, but as we spanned lots of different years we also met up with the brothers and sisters of friends and people that still live in the village.

“That’s something that doesn’t happen if you stick just to your own leaving year.”
