The manager of an Indian restaurant in Bassingbourn-cum-Kneesworth has continued to pledge his support for the village cricket team with a free meal for them and their visiting opponents from Liverpool.

The University of Liverpool staff cricket team has toured Cambs for more than 50 years, and Amran Hussain and his team from Yuva Fine Fusion were pleased to offer players a free biryani on match day.

“We have sponsored Bassingbourn Cricket Club for a while, and were pleased to be able to present them with their meal, which was very much appreciated by the teams,” he said.

“They have been celebrating a big milestone in that Liverpool have been coming to play in Bassingbourn for more than 50 years, so we did a free biryani for our local club.”

Cricket fan Amran said that Yuva – which has been going for 10 years this year – is once again sponsoring shirts for the village team.

He added: “Yuva continues to be proud to serve the community in Royston and surrounding villages and very much appreciate the community support we receive.” For more on Yuva in Old North Road go to www.yuvaroyston.co.uk
