A burglar found in a garage in Bassingbourn told the homeowner he was there because he was charging his phone.
Police were called at about 2.55pm yesterday afternoon to reports of a burglary in High Street.
The victim, a man in his 30s, returned home at about 2.40pm and noticed the garage door was open.
He went to look, and found a man inside.
He asked the man what he was doing, to which he replied that he was charging his phone. He was asked to leave, which he did, before the victim noticed a window had been smashed and a back door key taken.
It is believed that nothing was stolen.
The offender is described as black, about 6ft2ins, skinny, with afro-style hair, wearing a maroon top and blue tracksuit bottoms.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously.
