A Barley-based entrepreneur has set his sights on breaking America armed with his favourite tipple.

Pinkster Gin, founded back in 2013 by Stephen Marsh, is already sold in the UK and will be making its way across the pond after Stephen secured a £200,000 loan from Lloyds to fund the expansion.

Stephen said: “More than two thirds of gin distilled in the UK is exported due to its popularity, and we’re looking forward to introducing our British-made products to foreign markets.”

Stephen created the drink after developing an intolerance to wine left him only able to stomach spirits. After experimenting with flavours, he added raspberries and Pinkster was born.

Stephen’s cash boost will support his plans to export to wholesalers in the USA, and in Australia where he has just completed a whirlwind tour ‘having whale of a time, meeting all sorts of lovely folk in the trade’.

Pinkster Gin has an annual turnover of £500,000 and employs 10 members of staff, having more than tripled its turnover last year.

Stephen added: “We’ve seen the business grow considerably over the last three years and we’re on track to continue this growth into the future.”
