A cricket team’s whites will be shining brighter than usual after they won a new washing machine in a national competition.

Barley Cricket Club is one of 20 national winners in the AEG ultimate kit and laundry package contest, the prize in which was a new machine to launder their kit.

The club, which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2013, was nominated via Facebook, and is now in with a chance of winning a coaching session with former England captain Andrew Strauss OBE. A further vote will be held in September to determine who wins this prize.

Mr Strauss said: “Congratulations to Barley Cricket Club. It’s great to see a club doing so well after all this time, it’s clear they are a hugely deserving winner.”
