LARGE crowds enjoyed the Royston Town Band picnic in the park on Sunday.

Despite the dreary weather, plenty of visitors turned out to watch the Town Band and four other local acts perform in Priory Memorial Gardens.

Paul Skerry from Royston Town Band said: "We were a bit worried about the weather, and in fact we considered moving the event indoors, as we had the option of going into Royston parish church.

"But we stayed outside and I'm glad we did, because the rain held off and we had a really good turn out. The event is all about being outside and reaching a wider audience, so it would have lost some impact if we had been forced inside."

Other bands performing were the Ware Brass Band, Fulham Brass Band, and CSD Brass Band. All the musicians then came together for a grand finale.

The Town Band are keen to find new members, and anyone who is interested in getting involved should call Lisa King on 07860 163087.
