BASSINGBOURN's county councillor Linda Oliver is backing a campaign to have a species of bird reintroduced into the UK. She is one of many councillors involved in a campaign to start breeding the great bustard. Cllr Oliver and a colleague are sponsoring two injured birds, Violet and Jean Claude. She said: "We are very pleased to be involved in the campaign to bring this majestic bird back to British shores. "It would be wonderful if our financial help helped it to breed again in this country after more than 170 years. "The fact that it features on the Cambridgeshire County Council crest is an additional incentive," she added.
