ROYSTON Volunteer Centre has received a prestigious High Sheriff's award.

The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Howard Guard, presented centre manager Denise Graham with a certificate to mark the occasion.

Broxbourne Volunteer Centre also received an award.

Mr Guard said: "I wanted to acknowledge the very real work that volunteer centres in Hertfordshire do in co-ordinating and motivating volunteers, without whom many of the services that we take for granted would collapse, or cost the Government ten times as much to operate.

"Denise Graham definitely goes beyond the nine yards and works much longer hours than she is paid for."

Mr Guard has supported thr group throughout the last year, and took part in the painting of Coombes Community Centre on Make a Difference Day.
