Skype calls with children from Nepal have helped a village school achieve an International School Award.
Steeple Morden Primary School has been awarded the British Council’s International School Award in recognition of the work they do promoting the world and international education.
Headteacher Richard Lloyd said: “We are delighted to receive this award as it represents the opportunities the children have received at this school to learn about the lives of children around the world. This type of teaching develops tolerance and understanding.”
This term a group of Year 5 pupils have linked with schoolchildren in a remote mountain area of Nepal, not far from Mount Everest to share letters, talk by Skype and learn about each others lives.
The project was coordinated by staff from Cambridge University’s Pembroke College, and the university’s Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit (Division of Social Anthropology).
