A firm which has caused noise nusiance for village residents is to carry out assessments on affected homes.

Eden Farm, which has a factory in Station Yard in Meldreth, has commissioned a firm of consultants who will look at the sources of the noise and what can be done about it.

Last summer, residents formed the Meldreth Station Yard Community Liaison Group to find ways to deal with noise from the site. Many said they had been unable to sleep due to work going on through the night.

The group met last Wednesday, with representatives from Eden Farm in attendance. Cllr Susan van de Ven, county councillor for the Melbourn ward, said she feels things are moving in the right direction.

She said: “We heard about their plans at the meeting, and it was very encouraging to know they have employed these consultants, who will go into people’s homes and listen to the problems they are having.

“This is exactly the kind of response we had hoped for, and it’s great to have Eden Farm there and to be able to work on these problems together.”

The meeting also heard that a new forklift truck had been purchased by the firm to replace an older model. This should cut down the amount of noise from the yard.

Cllr van de Ven said: “At our next meeting we have asked if a manager from their headquarters in Yorkshire can come down to talk about vehicle movements in residential areas. The number of commercial vehicles which drive down Meldreth High Street and other residential roads is a concern.

“We are all really working hard to try and correct these issues, and are really hopeful that there will be a noticable improvement for people who live in the area.”
