A ROYSTON charity has awarded prizes to the winners of its art competition.

Home-Start Royston and South Cambridgeshire displayed the entries at its annual meeting last month, where the winners were chosen.

The winning children were given certificates and art crayons by Rod Lewis, a director of Hertfordshire Graphics, the event sponsors.

Mr Lewis, whose wife Karen is a co-ordinator for the charity, said: "Art is so important for children. You can see how much they have all enjoyed taking part.

"We hope this will become an annual event."

Home-Start offer support for any family with young children and have about 40 volunteers helping in the area.

Melissa Reeves, of Whittlesford, said that the volunteers had been a great help to her family since she had her second child, Louis, two years ago. She said that the competition was a good idea.

Mrs Reeves said: "I think it is a lovely way of bringing together all of the families. My daughter, Daisy, has drawn a picture of our family with somebody upside down with a handbag.
