A CRECHE in Bassingbourn is to improve its garden after Army recruits took part in a sponsored walk.

More than 120 recruits from the Army Training Regiment at Bassingbourn Barracks, pictured above with Bambi the pony, walked along the South Downs Way last month to raise almost £1,800 for the SunShine Pre-school.

Creche supervisor Pippa Cain said: "It is absolutely amazing. It is just a fantastic end to a great year for us.

"The children will see huge benefits from this."

The creche cares for 45 children, predominantly those of soldiers.

It received a good report from an Ofsted inspection last month.

Soldiers from the barracks donated a similar amount last year, and that money was used to revamp the back garden.

This year it is hoped that the money given to them will pay for a shed in which to store the children's play equipment.
