AN ARCHITECT from Royston is returning "home" to work on a new project in the town.

Jeremy Lander, who is the son of former Royston mayor Charles Lander, has been granted planning permission for a three-storey house near the west entrance of Royston parish church.

He said: "It's fantastic to come back to work in Royston. It's nice to be making a contribution to the town centre.

"The opportunity to do something radical wasn't there, so we have gone for a traditional aesthetic which hopefully goes with more traditional buildings."

The development will replace an existing concrete building which has stood derelict for a number of years.

Mr Lander says that he hopes the scheme will brighten up the town centre.
