ANNE Fisher has been appointed the new chief executive of East Herts District Council. Ms Fisher, 46, is currently director of environmental services at Haringey Council in north London. She has been responsible for sustainable planning, conservation and design. Ms Fisher, was previously assistant chief executive and assistant director of environment at Herts County Council. She will take up her new position in June. She said: "I'm looking forward to working with the people and communities of East Herts. "We've got some serious challenges ahead, particularly in terms of growth and airport agenda. I have been impressed by the commitment members have made to protect the quality of life in East Herts. "There's a lot to do to make people have the high quality services they need everyday, whether it's recycling, rubbish collection or using the leisure facilities." Tony Jackson, leader of East Herts District Council, said he was delighted Ms Fisher was joining the council. "During the three-day process of interviews, panels and discussions, around half of all members had an opportunity to meet her," he said. Ms Fisher will replace the council's current interim executive director Philip Thomas.
