SOUTH Cambridgeshire MP Andrew Lansley visited a local pharmacy last week and praised its “vitally important” role as he reshapes the NHS.

Speaking at the Bassingbourn Pharmacy in the village’s High Street, which opened last year, the secretary of state for Health said: “Community pharmacies play a vitally important role at the heart of communities and on the health service front line.

“I want to see them expand their role in optimising medicines use and public health, working in partnership with GPs and other healthcare professionals.”

Anil Sharma, pharmacist and owner of Bassingbourn Pharmacy, said: “I am delighted that Mr Lansley is here to see for himself the crucial role that pharmacies play in promoting good health and delivering vital NHS services close to where people live, work and shop.”
