Tiger day at Shepreth Wildlife Park went down a storm yet again, and it was an especially important day for tiger Amba – who celebrated her 18th birthday.

It was an especially impressive milestone for Amba, as it was touch and go whether she was going to make it six years ago when she had a 6kg tumour removed from her abdomen.

Shepreth Wildlife Park director Rebecca Willers said: “Thank you also to our amazing volunteers, staff, friends and trustees for making this event possible every year. We raised more than £1,600 for the Tiger Protection Conservation Unit in Sumatra and we know this money will be very well spent by this team saving tigers in the wild.

“We have also been greatly touched by the Head family. Sue Head was a visitor to the park who took part in our Tiger Experience. She was an avid tiger supporter and showed great love for these cats. Sue lost her fight with cancer last year. She left £4,000 in her will which she wanted donated to Tiger Day. This money will be sent to the TPCU in Sue’s memory.”

The event raised £5,600 to help save tigers via 21st Century Tiger.
