POLICE officers from the Royston Neighbourhood Team held their first open surgery at Tesco in the town on Friday - and hailed the event as a great success.

Sgt Richard Jones and PCSO Penny Tomsett spent four hours at the store speaking with members of the public about a number of issues including crime prevention advice, rural issues, recruitment, volunteers, and dealing with anti-social behaviour.

"The aim of the surgery was to give the residents of Royston an additional point of contact with local officers with no appointment," said Sgt Jones.

"This was a very successful event and we received some very positive feedback.

"We spoke with a large number of people and answered numerous queries, and I am pleased to say we will be

looking to hold these surgeries monthly in the future.

"We are also speaking with colleagues in Cambridgeshire about the possibility of them joining us at the surgeries, as many residents from Cambridgeshire use the store.

"I would like to thank Tesco for their support, and giving us space at the store."
