A TEENAGER was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction, an inquest heard.

Charles Pleasants, 17, of Orwell Road, Barrington, suffered multiple injuries in the accident on Shepreth Road, Barrington, on March 27 this year.

The inquest at Cambridge Coroner's Court heard how the teenager's Suzuki 650 motorbike collided with a Renault Kangoo driven by 62-year-old Jane Elliott.

A witness, Mark Field, who was driving behind Ms Elliott, described how he slowed down behind a queue of cars that were following a cycle.

As Ms Elliott over-took the cyclist, Mr Field said she "gave him plenty of room".

He said: "The motorbike was coming towards us and was visible - he was not going fast.

"The Kangoo pulled out to overtake the cyclist right into the other carriageway and then moved back into the lane."

He added that he thought at the time when the Kangoo overtook the bicycle that it was a "risky manoeuvre".

The 38-year-old cyclist, Martin Smith, was not injured in the accident.

Ms Elliott, who suffered minor injuries, told the inquest that she was driving home from work when she slowed down behind cars following a cyclist.

After overtaking the cycle she said the motorcycle veered over to his right and into the side of her car.

"He had his head down as he was coming towards the car," she said.

Mr Pleasants's brakes locked before he fell to the offside and into the path of Ms Elliott's car.

Coroner Dr Sam Bass recorded a verdict of accidental death.
