AN elderly woman pedestrian who was involved in a collision with a lorry, was in a stable condition in hospital this week.

The 77-year-old was taken to Addenbrooke's hospital with serious leg injuries.

The accident happened in Melbourn Street, Royston last week.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance, although the air ambulance was called, and landed in the Priory Memorial Gardens.

Her condition following the accident was described as "serious but stable", but has now improved.

In recent years, both district and town councillors in Royston have been attempting to have a heavy lorry ban introduced in Melbourn Street.

The main reason behind the move has been to prevent damage to the ancient Royston cave.

Last month Cllr Tony Hunter said that restrictions should be put into place to make Melbourn Street a "taboo area" for heavy vehicles.
