The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 60s, was taken to Lister Hospital with facial and other injuries which the police say are not life-threatening.
All traffic coming off the A1 (M) is being diverted through Baldock town centre and back on to the A505 north of the by-pass.
It is understood the road could be closed for more than two hours while heavy lifting equipment is brought in to lift the lorry upright.
