A section of the A505 Royston Bypass is set to shut at night for almost three weeks while roadworks take place.

The resurfacing work between the A505 Little Chef roundabout and the A1198 Old North Road roundabout just outside Royston will begin on Monday, November 18, at 9pm with the road remaining closed until 5am the following day.

The £720,000 scheme to repair the worn-out road surface is expected to run for 13 nights between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Friday.

Access to properties will be maintained during the closure, with gatemen controlling when it is safe for vehicles to pass through the site.

Bus services may also be affected – visit www.intalink.org.uk for more information.

Terry Douris, Cabinet member for highways at Hertfordshire County Council, which is overseeing the roadworks, said: “These works form part of Hertfordshire County Council’s on-going commitment to maintain and improve our roads for the benefit of all road users in Hertfordshire. We appreciate that this is a major route and understand that these essential maintenance works are likely to cause disruption and inconvenience both to motorists and residents. We apologise for this and would ask everyone for their co-operation while the work is in progress.”

Any changes to the proposed scheme or working hours will be announced on the information boards on site and will be available at www.hertsdirect.org/roadworks
