Plans for safety improvements at the Odsey junction of the A505 will be published in around six weeks – according to Herts County councillor Steve Jarvis who has met with engineers to discuss plans.

Councillor Jarvis – whose ward, Royston West and Rural, includes many of the Herts villages along the A505 – was joined by Cambs County councillor Sebastian Kindersley, who is the representative for The Mordens as part of his Gamlingay seat.

Councillor Jarvis said: “It has all taken much longer than I would have liked but I think that at last we are making progress. The core of the proposal is to stop drivers turning right onto the A505 since the accident records show that this is the main cause of accidents. That needs to be coupled with some facilities for drivers to turn back without having to drive all the way to Royston or Baldock.

“I asked the engineers to look at some further improvements and to come up with a plan that would deal with the Ashwell Station junction as the top priority since that is by far the busiest junction.

“They have agreed to come up with some plans that can be published in around six weeks.

“Once we have some agreed plans we need to get the funding agreed to pay for them. The Crow’s petition will be really helpful when we have to convince the council that this should be at the top of their priority list, so I hope people will continue to sign it.”

Councillor Sebastian Kindersley added: “I am delighted to see concrete progress with the A505. Residents I represent deal with the dangers of the A505 daily and works to improve safety cannot start soon enough for them.”
