A crash on the A505 yesterday left people trapped in one vehicle, while another car caught fire.

Emergency services were called at about 2.50pm to reports of a collision near the Thriplow turning.

The crash involved a Kia Picanto and two Ford Fiestas – one of the vehicles was on fire and another had people trapped inside, police have now confirmed.

A police spokesman said: “Officers, fire crews and paramedics attended the scene. A woman was taken to hospital.

“The road was closed while the incident was dealt with, but reopened at about 6pm.”

An ambulance service spokesman said: “One rapid response vehicle and one ambulance attended to treat one patient, who was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for further treatment.”

A Cambs fire service spokesman said: “Crews from Linton and Royston arrived to find two vehicles had been involved in a road traffic collision, where one vehicle had left the road and ended up in a ditch.

“Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release one casualty.

“One vehicle was on fire. The occupants were out of the vehicle on arrival, and firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

“Both crews returned to their stations by 6pm.”

While the emergency services dealt with the incident, traffic was diverted through Fowlmere – where there was also a crash later that afternoon.

The police spokesman also said: “We were called at 4.53pm with reports of a collision in Cambridge Road.

“The collision involved two vehicles and no injuries were reported.”
