An awareness ride to promote the need for a safe cycle route between Royston and Cambridge saw adults and children alike saddle up in the sunshine for the cause on Sunday.
The A10 corridor cyclists followed an entirely off-road route over several segments of new pedestrian/cycle path that the campaign has helped to foster and support – but campaign chair Susan van de Ven has said she knows the job isn’t done yet.
She told the Crow: “What made this year’s A10 Awareness Ride such a success was having so many children involved, including five-year-old Iris Bostanci who cycled the entire route under her own steam.
“Quite a few children introduced themselves as travel ambassadors for Meldreth Primary School and from Melbourn Village College we had Royston resident Sambor Czarnawski-Illiev, who is doing his Duke of Edinburgh volunteering with the A10 campaign.
“Looking to the future, we are looking forward to the day we can start the A10 Awareness Ride in Royston itself, with a safe link over the A505 and A10. If today’s children with their energy and enthusiasm are anything to go by, I think we’ll get there.”
