ROYSTON town centre forum will be pushing for a £25,000 make-over for the market square, it has been revealed. The town centre forum is aiming to improve the square with the introduction of a barrier system, anchor points for the stalls and electricity points for lighting. The announcement of the move came at Monday evening's meeting of the Royston Town Council's finance and general purposes committee. Royston town centre manager Geraint Burnell told members that the forum would be applying to the East of England Development Agency and North Herts District Council's Royston area committee for funding. He said: "We need a barrier system to keep the traffic out on market days and electricity for the traders to give them lighting, heating and make it more attractive." Mr Geraint told The Crow he was "optimistic" about the plans after two previously applications for funding had been rejected. "I'm an eternal optimist and I think this is a good and worthwhile project, previously we applied for far more funds, so I'm hopeful this time," he said.
