On this day in 2021, messages of support flooded in for Olympian Dan Goodfellow following his synchronised diving event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Goodfellow, alongside his diving partner Jack Laugher, represented their area on the world stage.
Having previously won bronze with Tom Daley in Rio, Dan aimed to add to his medal tally.
Despite being among the medal favourites after securing gold at the Diving World Cup earlier that year, the duo finished in seventh place in the synchronized 3m springboard event.
Their competition began poorly, scoring 47.40 on their first dive and improving slightly to 51.00 on their second, leaving them in eighth place.
The pair struggled further, with their third dive yielding a disappointing score of 63.24, the lowest of any team.

However, they ended on a high note, scoring an impressive 91.26 on their final dive.
Former Olympic diving silver medallist Leon Taylor expressed the community's sentiments: "We’re desperately disappointed for the boys today but that’s a little inkling of what the boys are capable of."
Messages from the community echoed pride in their efforts, with one stating, "An achievement just to be there and to represent us."
