On this day in 2015, more than 100 residents of Steeple Morden gathered to witness a poignant flypast by a fighter squadron that had travelled from the USA.

The squadron, part of the 355th Fighter Wing, has historical ties to the area, having been formed at Steeple Morden in July 1943.

This aerial observance marked the 72nd anniversary of the group, and the event was organised by Addo in collaboration with the Pixelsniper group and Mark Rourke.

After weeks of coordination with the US Air Force, the flypast was successfully arranged, bringing together the community.

Alan, a resident, expressed his excitement, stating: "It was brilliant, so much better than I expected.

"It was absolutely phenomenal."

In tribute to the village's rich history, many attendees, including children from Steeple Morden Church of England Primary School, gathered at the memorial to the airfield located on Litlington Road.

The airfield had been manned by USAF personnel during the Second World War and was known for its significant contributions to the war effort.
