On this day in June 29, 2022, Royston Museum reopened its doors after a two-year closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The museum, which celebrates 2,000 years of the town's history, features significant landmarks such as an ancient crossroad, a medieval priory, King James I's royal palace, and the intriguing Royston Cave.

Earlier that year, the Royston Museum Trust CIO was established to take over the museum's ownership and management.

Museum manager Nicky Paton, who began her role in March, and curator Sophie Riches, who joined in April, led the efforts to revamp the museum with the help of dedicated volunteers.

Nicky Paton said: "Following an intense couple of months, we are very pleased that phase one is now complete, and the feedback from visitors and community members has been extremely positive."

The museum aims to become the cultural hub of Royston, with further redevelopment phases planned to enhance its facilities and community engagement.
