Tributes have been paid to a former Baldock councillor who has been described as a "pillar of the community".
Michael Weeks recently passed away at the age of 83, having recently decided to stand down at the most recent elections.
Michael served as a district councillor for North Herts for 25 years, following his election in 1999.
He spent a year as chair of the council in the 2011-12 cabinet and also served in various roles under the Conservative administration, including roles dealing with waste management and the environment.
He also served on several committees , including as chair of the finance, audit and risk committee.
Newly elected council leader Daniel Allen said: "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of former Cllr Weeks.
"My thoughts are with his family and friends. Michael was a true pillar of our community. His dedication and unwavering commitment to public service have left a lasting impact on Baldock Town and beyond. He will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and tireless efforts to make a difference."
For those wishing to pay their respects, the funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 12 at 1.45pm at St Mary’s Church in Baldock.
