Neighbours have shown their support for a 'decent and honest family woman' who has run a beauty salon for the last eight years.

Emma Copping opened Emmaculates Beauty Room in 2016 in a converted garage on Albany Road in Great Yarmouth.

Last year, however, a complaint made to Great Yarmouth Borough Council alleging "unauthorised use" of the premises meant she had to make a retrospective planning application.

This was to formally change the use of the property from a former repair garage to beauty treatment studio, as well as associated works.

After Ms Copping submitted the application last October, the council received 11 letters of support and seven letters offering no objection to the salon.

One woman said: "I go to this lovely lady for treatments that I can't do without."

"It's been there for several years and never a complaint as there's no noise and closed early so I don't understand why someone would have anything negative to say about it."

Another commented: "Let a decent honest family woman continue what she does best which enables her to provide for her family."

The sentiment was echoed by a neighbour who said she thought that people, and especially women, "should be applauded for working around their home life and creating a business for themselves rather than people trying to take others down for no good reason".

Having a place of business such as a beauty salon, she added, was "extremely low key and more often than not of very little noise concern".

Planners have now approved the application.

Documents state the business will function on appointment only, one-in, one-out basis.

They also confirm that no additional staff will be working at the studio.
