Melbourn Springs Care Home residents met guinea pigs, tortoises and more as therapy animals came for a visit.

Last week, 11 animals from Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party visited the home in Hyacinth Drive.

Doris the chicken balanced on Zimmer frames, Holly the angora rabbit had her coat brushed and Diego the long-haired chihuahua enjoyed a back rub.

Activity lead Denise Ashby said: "There were ahhs and ohhs as Thumper and Hammy appeared and then the tiniest tortoise any of us had ever seen appeared on Michelle's hand.

"We met the most laid back cats ever who slept as they were stroked and tickled.

"Not forgetting Mitzi in her pink tutu, and last of all the cutest guinea pig, that had Lesley desperate for a cuddle!

Melbourn Springs, run by Barchester Healthcare, offers residential care, dementia care and pre-bookable respite stays for older people.

The home's ethos is to make sure residents enjoy a range of fun and memorable activities, with residents previously meeting therapy ponies, an Elvis impersonator and Barkway Baby and Toddler Group.
