Royston’s Annual Christmas Trail has once again brought family fun to children, their parents and carers in November and December.

The Christmas Nutcracker Trail provided a free, fun-filled family activity for children to seek twelve Nutcracker soldiers hiding in shopfront windows in and around the town centre, from Kneesworth Street to the Market Square.

To enter, participants had to submit a completed entry form, noting the name of each Nutcracker and answering a question, for the chance to win a Christmas Eve Treat Box from Kelly’s Kitchen and a large Nutcracker soldier.

Among the 140 correct entries submitted, five-year-old Aubrey Wilson was selected at random as the competition winner. She was visiting family in Royston for the weekend and will collect her prize in the New Year.

Aubrey’s mum said: “Aubrey is very excited to meet her nutcracker after her Christmas holiday! She had lots of fun finding all of his friends in Royston. And wishes everyone a merry Christmas!”

Additionally, seven randomly selected runners-up each won a “Decorate Your Own Nutcracker” kit to keep them busy over the festive period.

David Smyth, chairman of event organisers Royston First, said: “We are delighted that so many children have once again enjoyed our popular children’s Christmas Trail.

"Despite the sometimes cold weather, it was lovely to see families out and about following the trail and visiting the shops.

This is one of the reasons why we organise the trails – to bring footfall into the town, so that businesses can also benefit during the festive period.

"On behalf of everyone at Royston First, I would like to thank all the businesses and families who took part in the Trail, and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”.
