Pupils and staff at Petersfield Church of England Aided Primary School in Orwell are celebrating after a positive inspection.

Petersfield was the first school in the Diocese of Ely to be inspected under the new Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) framework, which found it is "living up to its expectations" as a church school.

In an inspection report, the school was praised for its "confident and courageous approach in living out its Christian vision for all to live life to the full".

The report said: "Committed leaders, including governors and staff know and understand the community the school serves.

"They work to ensure that pupils and their families are nurtured and supported. Links between the church, community and school are strong and mutually beneficial.

"The inclusive curriculum is designed so that all pupils can access learning. Pupils with additional needs, or who are vulnerable, receive bespoke support which enables them to flourish."

Petersfield was also praised for teaching about a range of religions and worldviews, including Christianity, and teaching pupils to respect and value the views of others.

The report stated: "Petersfield’s Christian vision was carefully chosen to be inclusive and reflect the community the school serves.

"Based on the Bible verse John 10:10, the aspiration to live life to the full can apply to all.

"Everyone can 'take something from it' and be encouraged to make the most of all opportunities offered.

"As a result, parents of all faiths or none are comfortable to send their children to the school."

Areas for development highlighted in the report included embedding work on developing spirituality, so that pupils and adults can "articulate their ideas and beliefs consistently", embedding religious literacy as a tool to "support the retrieval of knowledge" in RE, and re-establishing collaborative leadership of collective worship and RE.

Separate from Ofsted, SIAMS assesses how a school's Christian vision enables it to live up to its vision as a church school.

Petersfield, which has 122 pupils on its roll, was last inspected by Ofsted in 2020, and received a 'good' rating - an upgrade from the previous findings in 2017.
