As the festive season approaches, Royston residents are invited to nominate their local heroes to switch on the town's Christmas lights.

The lights switch-on, organised by the Royston First Business Improvement District (BID), will take place on Friday, November 24.

This year's event takes place a new venue - Fish Hill - and aims to be 'bigger and better' than before.

For the first time, the event will be hosted by Star Radio to help kick-start the Christmas season.

The event will begin at 5pm with live performances on stage by Tom Huttlestone, Somewhere 2 Sing choir and students from Limitless Academy of Performing Arts, with the Christmas lights switch-on itself taking place at 7pm.

Local businesses will be at the heart of the festivities, with a variety of stalls offering holiday gifts and treats.

A BID spokesperson said: "This will be a wonderful opportunity for members of the public to support and celebrate the diverse business community that makes Royston so special."

One of the highlights of this year's celebration is the new 'local hero' campaign, which aims to recognise and honour unsung heroes within the Royston community.

Royston First BID manager Paul Brown said: "Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond to make Royston a better place?

"Is there a neighbour, friend, or family member whose selfless acts have touched your heart?

"Now is the time to nominate them as a potential "Local Hero" who may receive the honour of illuminating our town's Christmas lights!"
