Citizens Advice North Hertfordshire (CANH) will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, October 17, at 2.30 p.m. at the Icknield Centre in Letchworth.

Everyone is welcome to attend to find out more about our charity and how we helped the communities in North Hertfordshire and South Cambridgeshire last year.

Our meeting offers a great opportunity to find out more about CANH. We are an independent charity, as are all Citizens Advice services across the country.

Our sources of funding range from local councils, through to grants, individual donations, and our own fundraising events. With a mix of funding, this ensures our independence, so that we can provide impartial advice tailored to each client.

Looking back at our 2022/23 year, it has certainly been very busy for the CANH team during a time of rising inflation, food, mortgage, rent, and fuel bills, with everyone in our communities feeling the cost-of-living squeeze.

In terms of the impact that we have on the community, there are not many charities in the area that help as many people as we do, and during 2022/23, we helped almost 6,000 people to tackle almost 12,000 issues.

Our service is not just about solving issues directly, we also want to advise and educate our communities, giving the best advice on a wide range of topics such as choosing credit, budgeting, energy saving tips and scams awareness.

You might have seen our teams in action across our area, as we held 110 workshops and outreach events during the year.

At our AGM, we will discuss the top three issues that we have advised on, including benefits, particularly disability benefits, debt and housing problems.

For the year, we generated £1.8 million in financial outcomes for our clients, which is additional income going into people’s pockets and money saved through helping them manage their money.

Quality of service is very important to us. 92 per cent of our clients would recommend our service to others and 91 per cent said that our advisers helped them find a way forward with their problems.

Over two-thirds of our clients said their mental and/or physical health improved as a result of seeking our advice.

Our advisers, many of whom are volunteers, can feel proud of the work they have done in very difficult circumstances.

So, please join us on October 17 and find out more about CANH and our work.

Our AGM also offers an opportunity to look ahead and for you to discuss with us ways you might be able to support our services in the future.

If you would like to join us, please book your place by emailing communications@nhdcab.org.uk.
