A Hertfordshire resident has become district director of Toastmasters UK North and Ireland - an organisation which empowers people to become more effective communicators and leaders.

Dr Elizabeth Jordan, a member of Hertfordshire Speakers Toastmasters Club, took up her post as District 71 director on July 1, the first day of the Toastmasters New Year.

District 71 stretches from Herts to Scotland to Ireland, and serves around 4,000 members in 200 clubs.

Elizabeth, who has been a Toastmaster for 13 years, said: "I am particularly keen to see the benefits of Toastmasters become more understood in both the community and the corporate world."

The organisation helps people build their confidence at public speaking in a range of circumstances, from making work presentations to social speeches at weddings and events and dealing sensitively with conflict.
