Age UK in Royston has teamed up with The Wombles to spread an environmental message, while encouraging residents to recycle their unwanted Christmas presents.

As the children's characters celebrate their 50th anniversary, The Wombles are championing sustainable, Womble-like behaviour.

Through their partnership with Age UK, people are urged to donate any unwanted gifts to the charity's shop in Royston.

Donated items will be sold on to be used again, helping to reduce waste and landfill.

The Age UK shop in Royston raises funds to support vital services for older people, including the charity's national advice line and telephone friendship services.

Andy Hancock, shop manager at the Age UK shop in Royston, said: “It can be difficult to know what to do with gifts that will never be used, or that you don’t want, so, along with The Wombles, we’re calling on locals to donate any unwanted presents to the Age UK shop in Royston.

"Not only will you be helping to reduce waste, but you will be helping to raise much-needed funds so that Age UK can support older people most in need."

The Age UK shop in Royston is in Church Lane, and sells clothes, books, toys and other items.
