Thousands of pounds worth of vital, life-saving equipment was stolen from Royston Fire Station on Boxing Day, and police are appealing for witnesses and information.

The equipment was stolen at around 8.30pm on Monday, December 26 from one of the fire engines parked at the Baldock Street station.

Detective Sergeant Laura Bassett said: "This was a completely senseless theft affecting colleagues in the emergency services, here to protect the public.

"We are appealing for anyone with any information or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area."

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that they have replaced the missing equipment, and the fire engine is now fully operational.
