South Cambs-based poet and novelist J. S. Watts is publishing her third poetry collection, entitled Underword.

The collection, which is published in paperback format by Lapwing Publications, explores the theme of death from many angles and viewpoints, aiming to break the taboo around the subject.

J. S. Watts explained: "Loosely following the narrative flow of the story of Orpheus, the poems of Underword explore life, dying, death, mourning, moving on, hell and the afterlife, hope, disintegration and despair, and endings."

Earlier this year, J. S. was joint judge of the Royston Arts Festival Poetry Competition, along with fellow poet Jude Simpson.

Underword includes the poem 'The Undertaker's Daughter', which was a runner-up in the Mslexia/Poetry Book Society Competition 2019.
