Arsenal Ladies defender Alex Scott says her side are fully focussed on regaining the Women’s Super League and being the number one club in England once more following the announcement of the 2015 fixtures this week.

The Gunners finished fourth last season, with Liverpool winning the league on the final day after beating Bristol Academy.

The FA Women’s Cup was added to Arsenal’s laden mantelpiece as consolation in 2014 but Scott, who lives in WGC, wants to be challenging for the league trophy they won two years running in 2011 and 2012.

England defender Scott said: “We had a tough season last year and things did not go all our own way.

“We won the first two Super Leagues but in the past couple of years Liverpool have been the top team so we are aiming to get back to where we were.

“We have enjoyed that winning feeling and the confidence that comes with it so we will try to re-establish that and get back to the top of the tree.”

The Borehamwood side begin their 2015 campaign in the same vein as last season - with a trip to Notts County, that finished 1-1.

Consequently, Arsenal will be looking to better that result and start the new season on a high, but Scott believes it will be a tough test they won’t take lightly.

She said: “Notts County have made some good signings over pre-season, adding to the quality they already possess so it is as tough as it gets to start the season.

“They finished lower than they would have liked in the league last year so they will be as eager as us to get off to a good start.”

Before the big kick-off on April 2, the Londoners have a busy pre-season, beginning with a friendly at home to Australia U18s next Tuesday afternoon at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield.

With several new signings on the books, Scott hopes Arsenal can make good use of friendlies in order for the team to gel.

She continued: “We have re-signed Lianne Sanderson which is amazing for us and I am looking forward to working with her again.

“We have also got Vicki Losada from Barcelona, Jemma Rose and Natalia Pablos Sanchon so we will hope to mould the team together in the next few weeks in time for April.”
